LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Friday they have signed 2005-born goaltender Brady Smith to a Western Hockey League Standard Player agreement.
Smith, 16, was originally drafted by the Hurricanes in the sixth round (123rd overall) of the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft. The Cloverdale, BC product has appeared in 13 games this season with the Yale Hockey Academy U18 Prep team where he had posted a 9-2-1 record with a 2.51 goals against average (GAA) and a .911 save percentage (SV%) along with one shutout.
Last year, the 6'1, 175-pound netminder posted a sparkling 1.55 GAA and .925 SV% in 17 games with Yale during his draft year in 2019-2020. That season, Smith posted a 13-2-0 record during the regular season before recording a .929 SV% in the playoffs. During 2019-2020, he was named the CSSHL U15 Top Goaltender after posting league best marks in both goals against and save percentage.
Smith joins fellow Yale Hockey Academy alumni Logan Wormald and Nolan Viesner as well as Noah Chadwick, Dustin Renas and Zach Bansley as the Hurricanes signed 2005-born players.
The Hurricanes begin a three-in-three weekend Friday as they welcome the Prince Albert Raiders to the ENMAX Centre before visiting the Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday and hosting the Edmonton Oil Kings on Sunday. Tickets for the game can be purchased in person at the ENMAX Centre Ticket Centre.
