Hurricanes Push Back against Riptide for Exciting Home-Court Win

HALIFAX, N.S. - After a slow start in the first half, the Halifax Hurricanes' offence came alive in the second half to overcome the visiting Saint John Riptide at Scotiabank Centre on Sunday afternoon by a score of 94-90.

In the first half, Halifax was only able to put up 39 points to the Riptides 51, shooting well below 40 per cent from the field.

The game turned on Riptide turnover in the second half. The Saint John team gave the ball up a total of 26 times in the contest, and once the Hurricanes were able to capitalize on them, added 24 points to the scoreboard.

Leading the charge for the Hurricanes was Joel Kindred who started the game in place of an absent Terry Thomas. Kindred finished with a game-high 27 points and six steals. Kindred went 9-11 from the free throw stripe on the afternoon.

Mike Poole stepped up with a big second half, finishing with 23 points to go with six rebounds and three steals.

On the defensive end, Rhamel Brown put together a magnificent four quarters of effort defending the basket and the ball. He had 12 points, eight board and two blocks and three steals, while hist post-made Chadrack Lufile pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds to go with his 12 points, two blocks and three steals.

The Riptide were led by Kenny Osse, who had 25 points, five rebounds and Frank Bartley, who had 17 points and ten boards.

The Hurricanes will play again on Monday, Heritage Day in Nova Scotia, against the Moncton Magic at 2 p.m. at Scotiabank Centre.
