Hurricanes Comeback Falls Short in Game 1 Loss to Island Storm

Halifax Hurricanes vs. the Island Storm in Playoff Game 1

The Halifax Hurricanes found their playoff mojo a little too late on Thursday as they dropped Game 1 of the National Basketball League of Canada Atlantic Division Semifinals to the Island Storm.
The Hurricanes fell 108-102 after coming back in the fourth quarter from a deficit as high as 22 points to challenge the Storm in the final minutes of the game.
The Hurricanes had difficulty scoring in the first half, shooting below 30 per cent from the field. The Halifax squad found scoring bursts from the regular season scoring leader Antoine Mason, who finished with a game-high 35 points to go with his seven rebounds. He shot just shy of 43 per cent of the field.
Along with Mason, the comeback was led by sixth man Ta'Quan Zimmerman who hit a couple big threes on his way to nine points. He was joined by Mike Poole, who energy and fearless shooting netted him 20 points.
The Storm were able to limit the Hurricanes post and paint play. They held forwards Billy White and Tyrone Watson to just six and two points respectively, while winning the battle on the boards and scoring 18 second-chance points.
The Storm found lots of the offence early and had five players finish with at least 15 points for the night, with 3 scoring at least 20.
To even up the series, the Hurricanes will need their formidable frontcourt in Game 2 on Sunday, April 8 in Halifax at the Scotiabank Centre.
