San Antonio Stars News Release

SAN ANTONIO - USA Basketball has named Silver Stars head coach and General Manager Dan Hughes to its five-person selection committee for the 2009-12 Women's National Team.

The USA National Team will compete in the 2010 World Championships and 2012 Olympic Games. While, the initial team members have already been announced, the selection committee is tasked with adding athletes progressively as competitions approach. There will be a series of training camps to prepare and evaluate the National Team members so rosters can be finalized.

"I am honored to be asked to be a part of USA Basketball," said Hughes. "I look forward to the selection process of some outstanding prospects to represent the United States in women's basketball."

Joining Hughes on the selection committee are Renee Brown, WNBA appointee; Carol Callan, National Team Director; Teresa Edwards, athlete representative and Kelly Krauskopf; WNBA appointee.

Hughes began his WNBA coaching career with the Charlotte Sting in1999, before taking over the head coaching job with the now-defunct Cleveland Rockers. He has twice been named WNBA Coach of the Year (2001 and 2007) and is the only coach in league history to take three different franchises to the playoffs. Last season he guided the Silver Stars to their first WNBA Finals berth. He recently earned his 150th career win with a 153-163 all-time career mark.

Individual tickets for the 2009 Silver Stars season are on sale and can be purchased by phone at 210-444-5090, online at sasilverstars.com or at the AT&T Center Southeast Box Office. The box office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on weekend event days at 10 a.m. All Silver Stars games are broadcast live on KTKR/Ticket 760.
