Huge Walk-up Crowd Expected for Aviators Home Opener

May 21, 2004 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Edmonton Aviators News Release

Edmonton, May 21, 2004 – A new era in Edmonton sports kicks off on May 30th as the Edmonton Aviators Men’s and Women’s teams play their first home games at Commonwealth Stadium (2 pm MST). The men will face the Minnesota Thunder at 4:30pm (MST), and the Women will face the Arizona Heatwave at 2pm (MST).

Although season tickets and mini-packs are selling fast, the Edmonton Aviators expect a huge walk-up crowd on opening day.

“We expect to break the USL attendance record of 25,515 set by Seattle a few years ago,” said club president Wylie Stafford. “Edmontonians take great pride in their sports teams. Edmonton is clearly a sports city. We are confident a lot of people are going to come out to support their newest teams and chalk up another record for the city of champions. These teams are made up mainly of local players so let’s get out and watch our kids play.”

In order to avoid large line-ups, the Edmonton Aviators are encouraging people to buy their tickets in advance.

“We all remember how many people were at the U-19 women’s games. We hope that by encouraging people to buy their tickets in advance we can keep the number of people lined up at the gates to a minimum,” said Stafford.

Individual tickets for all Edmonton Aviators home games are on sale now at (780) 424-KICK (5425) or online at www.aviatorssoccer.com.

Individual ticket prices have been set at $16 plus applicable fees and taxes for adults, and $14 plus applicable fees and taxes for youths and seniors. Children five and under get in for free.

“Our staff have worked incredibly hard to get ticket prices as low as they are. We’re very happy to offer top-quality, professional soccer at a family-friendly, affordable rate,” said Stafford. “We know we are going to have to earn everyone’s respect and we are looking forward to doing just that.”

Keep in mind that parking around Commonwealth Stadium is very limited. To alleviate this concern, park and ride will be provided by ETS for the Aviators home opener on May 30th.

“With the support we’re getting from everyone in and around the city,” said Stafford, “the May 30th Edmonton Aviators home opener is promising to be an event that Edmontonians won’t soon forget.”
