Vermont Lake Monsters News Release

FISHKILL, NY --- Vidal Brujan doubled with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning and scored the winning run on back-to-back wild pitches to give the Hudson Valley Renegades a 3-2 walkoff victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters in New York-Penn League action Saturday night at Dutchess Stadium.

The Lake Monsters had rallied to tie the game in the ninth as Logan Farrar was hit by a pitch to leadoff the inning and scored on a Greg Deichmann RBI double, but Deichmann was stranded at third base as Lage recorded Vermont's 17th strikeout over the first nine innings.

Then in the 10th, Vermont loaded the bases on three walks (leadoff, one-out and two-out base on balls) before Deichmann popped out to short on a 2-0 pitch. The Renegades then walked off in the bottom of the 10th as Lake Monsters reliever Josh Reagan (1-1) uncorked the two wild pitches, including the game-ender on a 2-0 pitch, to take the loss.

Vermont earlier had scored the game's first run as Jesus Lage led off the third with a triple and scored on a Javier Godard sacrifice fly. But the Lage triple would be the Lake Monsters only hit off Renegades starter Tobias Myers over the first five innings with no walks and seven strikeouts.

Hudson Valley tied the game in the fourth on an Issac Bernard RBI triple, then Bernard gave the Renegades a 2-1 lead in the sixth with an RBI infield single that scored Taylor Walls. Those two runs came off Vermont reliever Wyatt Marks, who gave up four hits with two walks and four strikeouts over four innings.

Lake Monsters starter Parker Dunshee allowed back-to-back singles to open the bottom of the first, but worked out of a first-n-third no-out jam with a pop up and double play. Dunshee finished with three shutout innings to extend his scoreless streak to 24 consecutive innings with Vermont and has yet to allow a run over his first 26 professional innings (also tossed two scoreless innings for Arizona League A's).

Trailing by a run in the seventh, Vermont got back-to-back singles to open the inning before Matt Vogel struckout the next three Lake Monsters to squash the rally. Vogel then struckout the first two Vermont batters in the eighth to finish his 2 2/3 scoreless innings with one walk and seven strikeouts.

The 17 total Vermont strikeouts were a season-high, while the Lake Monsters are now 10-9 in one-run games (have lost 8 of their last 10 games decided by one run). With the loss, Vermont (24-21) now leads Connecticut by 1 1/2 games for first-place in the Steder Division.

The Lake Monsters and Renegade will play the second of the three-game series at Hudson Valley on Sunday at 5:05 pm with the series finale Monday at 7:05 pm. Vermont will then return to historic Centennial Field for a three-game series against Batavia starting on Tuesday.
