Connecticut defeats Staten Island

Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release
NORWICH, CT- Ro Colemen drove in his first runs of the season with a bases-loaded double in the second, and Drew Carlton stranded the tying run in scoring position in the ninth as the Connecticut Tigers beat the Staten Island Yankees, 6-5 at Dodd Stadium Saturday night.
The Tigers struck for four runs after the Yanks took an early 3-0 lead. Randel Alcantara, Elys Escobar, and Cole Peterson all had two-out singles to make it 3-1. After a Luke Burch walk loaded the bases, Coleman lined a base hit into center field to bring in Escobar and Peterson to tie it. The throw from right fielder Tim Robinson got away, allowing Burch to give the Tigers a lead they would never relinquish.
From there, Jhonny Mateo (3-2) shut down the Yankees with four innings of two-hit, shutout relief for the win.
Connecticut added what appeared to be insurance runs in the sixth on an Escobar RBI single and a Burch sacrifice fly to make it 6-3, before the Yankees rallied with two in the ninth off reliever John Hayes.
Carlton came on with the tying run at second base and one out, fanning Danienger Perez and getting Cesar Diaz to ground out to end the game for his third save in three tries.
Connecticut's ten-hit attack was led by Coleman, who was 2-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI, while Escobar and Peterson, the eighth and ninth hitters in the Tigers lineup, combined to go 4-7 with two runs and two RBI.
The teams will meet again on Sunday afternoon at 4:05. The game can be heard on 1310 WICH and online at www.cttigers.com
