BURLINGTON, VT --- Vidal Brujan's two-out RBI double scored Deion Tansel with an unearned run that snapped a 5-5 tie and gave the Hudson Valley Renegades a 6-5 victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters in New York-Penn League action Monday night at historic Centennial Field.

Tansel had reached with two outs on an error by centerfielder Jack Meggs, who after running in on a pop up behind second base looked to have caught the ball for the third out but it fell out of his glove for the error. Brujan followed with a line drive into the rightfield corner and Brujan just scored ahead of the relay throw to the plate.

Renegades reliever Zack Monzingo (1-0), who had come on in the eighth inning to get a 1-2-3 double play and fly out with the bases loaded and no outs to keep the game tied 5-5, struckout the side in the bottom of the ninth to give Hudson Valley its first win in four games at Centennial this season.

Vermont had taken a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a two-out Jordan Devencenzi single and Greg Deichmann 408-foot two-run homer to rightfield. It was the second home run for the 2017 second-round pick out of LSU in eight games with the Lake Monsters.

Lake Monsters starter Oscar Tovar did not give up a hit over the first four innings, but allowed four runs on five hits, including a Jean Ramirez two-run homer and Tansel solo homer, in the fifth that Hudson Valley a 4-2 advantage. The Lake Monsters cut the deficit to 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning on a Meggs solo home run to rightcenter, his team-leading third of the season.

After not scoring with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth, Vermont had runners on second and third with one out in the seventh when Aaron Arruda struckout for the second out of the inning. But Javier Godard then lined an 0-1 pitch into right field to score Greg Deichmann with the tying run and Will Toffey with the go ahead run.

Hudson Valley tied the game 5-5 in the top of the eighth on an Emilio Gustave two-out RBI single. The Lake Monsters again loaded the bases with no out in the bottom of the eighth, but were unable to score as Renegades reliever Zach Mozingo got a 1-2-3 double play and flyout to keep the game tied at five.

Deichmann was 1-for-2 with three walks and two runs scored to go along with his two-run homer, while reliever Josh Reagan (15th-round out of South Carolina) allowed one run on two hits over 2 1/3 innings in his Vermont debut. Brujan was 2-for-5 with a run scored and the game-winning double, while Gustave 2-for-4 with a run and RBI for Hudson Valley (10-16).

Despite the loss, Vermont (17-10) remais in first-place in the Stedler Division by three games over Connecticut. The Lake Monsters and Renegades will play the second of the three-game series Tuesday at 7:05 pm with the first 750 fans receiving a free Lake Monsters baseball cap presented by Beisiegel Orthodontics.
