HOUSTON, Tex. - Houston Dynamo 2 snapped a three-game losing streak this evening with a 1-0 victory over Tacoma Defiance at AVEVA Stadium.
Dynamo 2 midfielder Marcelo Palomino scored the lone goal of the game in the final minute of regulation from a free kick. Houston was awarded the free kick outside the box after a foul on midfielder Juan Castilla. Palomino took the free kick and beat the Tacoma goalkeeper at the far post for his third goal of the season.
With the victory Houston Dynamo 2 remains unbeaten at AVEVA Stadium with a (4-0-0) record.
Dynamo 2 nearly broke through with the game's first goal just 30 seconds into the contest, as defender Micael dos Santos Silva launched a long pass that found forward Kyle Edwards alone in space. Edwards got off a shot, but it was blocked by the Tacoma goalkeeper and ricocheted off the cross bar for a corner kick.
Houston got another shot on goal in the 10th minute, as forward Jacob Evans intercepted a Tacoma pass and found Edwards in space. The 25-year-old then passed the ball back to Evans inside the 18-yard-box, whose subsequent shot was buried by the Tacoma goalkeeper.
Dynamo 2 generated another dangerous play in the 40th minute, as defender Mujeeb Murana found himself with open space on the right flank and whipped a ball onto the head of forward Papa N'Doye. N'Doye's header went just wide of the net and was cleared away by the defense.
In the 68th minute Tacoma's Georgi Minoungou generated Tacoma's best chance of the night when he got a shot on goal the ricocheted off the crossbar to keep the game scoreless. Dynamo 2 goalkeeper Andrew Pannenberg was finished with one save and his first clean sheet of the season.
Dynamo 2 forward Diego Rosas entered in the second half and nearly had the breakthrough goal in the 75th minute, when the ball landed at his feet at the edge of the penalty area. The Dynamo Academy alum let off an explosive shot along the ground that went just wide of the goal.
Houston generated another dangerous attacking play late in the match as Edwards split two defenders and made a run through into the attacking third before finding a trailing N'Doye, who let off a shot that sailed just above the crossbar.
