 Houston Dynamo 2 News Release
HOUSTON - Houston Dynamo 2 defeated North Texas SC 2-1 at SaberCats Stadium earlier this evening. The victory snaps a four-game winless run and gives Dynamo 2 their second triumph of the year over North Texas.
Dynamo 2 midfielder Diego Gonzalez scored in the 56th minute of the match, that was his team-leading seventh goal of the regular season. Jacob Evans began the play following a short corner. Evans found Gonzalez with space to thread the ball in between the far post and the diving hands of the North Texas goalkeeper.
North Texas SC equalized in the 64th minute after forward Pablo Torre found the back of the net.
Houston regained the lead two minutes later in the 66th minute after defender Isaiah LeFlore scored his first goal of the regular season.
Dynamo Dos' first shot of the night came in the fourth minute of the match after Evans took a shot from the left side of the goal. Evans' shot forced North Texas goalkeeper Antonio Carrera to make the stop right at the near post.
In the 38th minute, forward Yair Gonzalez took a shot on goal that landed right into the arms of Carrera, ending Houston's threat to take the lead.
Evans nearly cashed in from about 20-yards out in the 41st minute of the match. Evans' shot was headed toward the upper right-hand side of the goal but was stopped by Carrera.
Dynamo 2 goalkeeper Xavier Valdez made a key save in the 49th minute to keep the score level at 0-0.
Dynamo Dos nearly took the lead in the 51st minute after a ball was crossed in front of the net. LeFlore was inches away from guiding the ball into the back of the net for the first goal of the night.
Forward Zeke Soto nearly scored his first professional goal in the first minute of second half stoppage time after a ball fell to his feet inside the 18-yard box, but his effort was off target.
Two Houston Dynamo 2 players who started Sunday's match will head to Washington D.C. for MLS All-Star festivities. Valdez will be one of four MLS NEXT Pro goalkeepers participating in Goalie Wars. Defender Tate Lampman will represent the Dynamo Academy at the MLS NEXT All-Star Game.
Dynamo 2 are back at SaberCats Stadium on Sunday, June 23 to host Minnesota United FC II at 6:00 p.m. CT.
