Houston Dynamo FC News Release
In front of a sold-out crowd at BBVA Compass Stadium, the Houston Dynamo defeated the New York Red Bulls 2-0 on Friday to move into first place in the Eastern Conference. Jermaine Taylor and Calen Carr provided the goals for the Dynamo who won their fifth consecutive game for the third time in team history.
The Dynamo took the game to New York early, with Taylor getting the Dynamo on the board in the second minute. After Red Bulls goalkeeper Bill Gaudette saved a Macoumba Kandji strike, the ball fell to defender Andre Hainault at the top of the six-yard box. The Dynamo right back sent in a ball across the goal mouth to Taylor who kneed the ball into the net for his first MLS goal.??
New York struggled to adjust to the Houston heat and the Dynamo were able to capitalize again in the first half. In the 28th minute, Macoumba Kandji held off defender Markus Holgersson and sent a looping ball toward the back post. Carr rose above the Red Bulls defense and headed the ball into the far corner for his fourth goal in his past four games.??
It was Carr's fourth goal of the year, with the seventh-year player setting a new career high.
The Red Bulls were unable to muster much offense and forced Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall to make only two saves on the evening. The shutout was Hall's sixth in his past seven games and his tenth of the season. He is now one shy of the all-time shutout mark set by Pat Onstad in 2007. It has been seven and a half games - 674 minutes - since Keon Daniel scored against the Dynamo, the last goal conceded in the run of play. ? The Dynamo have outscored their opponents 13-1 during the five-game winning streak. Houston is 6-0-2 in its last eight games and is three games shy of equaling its longest unbeaten run, an 11-game streak without a loss set in 2009.
The Dynamo are unbeaten in their last 19 regular season home games (20 including playoffs). It is the longest steak in franchise history and the third longest streak in MLS history.
The Dynamo (11-5-7; 40 points) move two points ahead of New York (11-7-5; 38 points) and alone in first place in the Eastern Conference. The same teams meet again in their final regular season meeting, Aug. 10 in New York.
