Houston Dash News Release
The Houston Dash had several players called up for international duty during the latest international break.
Saturday afternoon, forward Nichelle Prince and defender Allysha Chapman both earned the start for the Canadian Women's National Team against New Zealand at TD Place in Ottawa, Ontario. Prince helped Canada extend its lead over New Zealand to 3-0 in the 58th minute. Midfielder Sophie Schmidt was available off the bench for Team Canada and subbed on in the 64th minute.
Earlier in the day, forward Rachel Daly earned the start for England in its World Cup Qualifier against Northern Ireland. Daly helped the Lionesses shut out Northern Ireland 4-0 as a key part of England's back line.
International play kicked off with the USWNT facing South Korea for an international friendly at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas. Midfielder Kristie Mewis was subbed on for Catarina Macario in the 46th minute. Four minutes later, Mewis had a close chance from the top of the left side box but sailed just over the crossbar and into the stands. Goalkeeper Jane Campbell and defender Abby Dahlkemper were available off the bench for the United States.
All of Houston's national team members will be in action next Tuesday before returning to Houston for the final game of the NWSL regular season. Daly and England will face Latvia at 12:30 p.m. CT. Chapman, Schmidt, and Prince will help Canada take on New Zealand at 6:30 p.m. CT. Mewis, Dahlkemper, Campbell and the USWNT will take on South Korea at 7 p.m. CT.
