Houston Dash Players Close out International Duty on a High Note

The final FIFA break of the regular season was a busy stretch for several players on the Houston Dash as seven players reported for international duty with Canada, England and the United States. 

Dash forward Rachel Daly and England faced Latvia in the first of three matches featuring Houston players this week. Daly was subbed into the match in the second half and the Dash captain scored in the 70th minute to extend the Lionesses lead over Latvia to 7-0. Twelve minutes later Daly scored a second goal to give England a 10-0 victory and their fourth consecutive victory in their bid to qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. 

Houston goalkeeper Jane Campbell earned the start in goal for the United States against South Korea in USWNT forward and former Dash player Carli Lloyd's final international match on Tuesday. Campbell earned her seventh cap, fifth start and a clean sheet in the 6-0 win. Midfielder Kristie Mewis and defender Abby Dahlkemper were available off the bench for the USWNT who said goodbye to former Dash midfielder and international legend Carli Lloyd. The two-time FIFA Women's World Cup champion retired from international competition after earning 316 caps for the U.S., the second most in program history.  

Canada beat New Zealand 1-0 in Montreal on Tuesday and Dash defender* Sophie Schmidt earned the start in the final game of the gold medal Celebration Tour. Defender Allysha Chapman* and forward Nichelle Prince were also available off the bench for Canada.

The Dash returns to action this weekend and will face the Washington Spirit on Oct. 31 at 1 p.m. CT at Audi Field. Houston is looking to clinch its first ever playoff berth with a win.
