Houston Dash News Release
Houston DashÃÂ lost to OL Reign by a final score of 1-0ÃÂ tonight at BBVA Stadium.
After splitting the first two matchups of the season, the DashÃÂ fell in thisÃÂ third and finalÃÂ match,ÃÂ losingÃÂ the season series with OL ReignÃÂ 2-1.
OL ReignÃÂ had the firstÃÂ opportunity onÃÂ goal,ÃÂ which cameÃÂ afterÃÂ MFÃÂ SophieÃÂ SchmidtÃÂ gaveÃÂ the ballÃÂ up inside theÃÂ HoustonÃÂ Dash'sÃÂ defensiveÃÂ third.ÃÂ OL Reign'sÃÂ MFÃÂ JaneÃÂ FishlockÃÂ received the ball just outside the 18-yard-box, butÃÂ had her shot on goal denied by aÃÂ divingÃÂ GKÃÂ Jane Campbell,ÃÂ beforeÃÂ Fishlock'sÃÂ teammateÃÂ FW Bethany Balcer knocked the ball into the netÃÂ in theÃÂ seventhÃÂ minute.
The Dash's first chanceÃÂ to scoreÃÂ came in the 15thÃÂ when FWÃÂ Nichelle PrinceÃÂ connected with FWÃÂ Rachel DalyÃÂ streaking down the middle of the pitch. Daly secured the ball andÃÂ had an open shot on goal, but was denied by the right foot of Reign GK SarahÃÂ Bouhaddi.ÃÂ
Houston'sÃÂ nextÃÂ best chance to score came off of a FWÃÂ Kristie MewisÃÂ corner kick in the 31stÃÂ minute. Mewis smashed the ball straight into the box amongst a crowd of bodies, however it was OL Reign'sÃÂ BouhaddiÃÂ whoÃÂ snatched theÃÂ ball out of the air before it could connect with a Dash player.
Just before the half, Mewis generated one more chance for the DashÃÂ to score, as she took a shot on goal from just outside the 18-yard-box, but the shot was blocked without reaching the back of the net.
The game marked the first appearance for USWNT DFÃÂ Abby DahlkemperÃÂ as a member of the Dash.ÃÂ Dahlkemper finished with four clearances and four recoveries in her first match with Houston.
Houston's best scoring chance of the second half came right at the start of the half.ÃÂ Coming out of theÃÂ lockerÃÂ room,ÃÂ two substitutes gaveÃÂ the DashÃÂ a boost of energy,ÃÂ asÃÂ MFÃÂ Shea GroomÃÂ foundÃÂ FWÃÂ Jasmyne SpencerÃÂ racing up the left side. Spencer controlled the ball inside the box, faked a shot to move the defender out of the way before rifling a shot into the keeper's arms.ÃÂ
Houston's next match willÃÂ comeÃÂ thisÃÂ SundayÃÂ at 3 p.m. CT on the roadÃÂ when they take on theÃÂ Orlando Pride.ÃÂ The match will be aired live nationally on CBS.
