Houston Assigns Gherson to Mallards

Moline, IL-Quad City Mallards President and General Manager Howard Cornfield today announced that rookie goaltender Robert Gherson has been assigned to the team from the Houston Aeros of the American League. Houston is the primary affiliate of the National Hockey League's Minnesota Wild. Gherson, a fifth round pick of the Washington Capitals in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, comes to the Mallards to begin his first season in pro hockey.

Gherson appeared in 189 Ontario League games over the last four seasons. Last year, Gherson played two games with the Sarnia Sting before being moved to the Owen Sound Attack. Overall, Gherson appeared in 44 OHL games while compiling a 3.17 goals against average and a .899 save percentage.

Gherson was one of the OHL's leading goaltenders in 2002-03. The Toronto native played 49 games with Sarnia going 26-12-7 with a 2.78 goals against average and a .915 save percentage. Gherson was third in the league in wins, eighth in save percentage and nine in goals against average.

Gherson joins the Mallards training camp which currently has 26 players. The team is back in action on Monday night when they take on the Missouri River Otters at The MARK. On Tuesday, the Mallards host the Rockford IceHogs in a rematch of Saturday night's exhibition opener. The Mallards begin the home portion of their tenth anniversary season on October 30th vs. Kansas City at The MARK of the Quad Cities.
