Hounds Take Game Four in 5-3 Win over Spirit

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) - The Saginaw Spirit lost 5-3 to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds Wednesday night in Sault Ste. Marie. The Hounds have a 3-1 lead over the Spirit in the best-of-seven playoff series.

Saginaw opened scoring early in the game. Defenseman Patrick McNeill (WSH) scored on the power play at 7:19 in the first period to give the Spirit a 1-0 lead, assisted by winger Jan Mursak (DET) and defenseman Andrew Hotham. The Hounds would answer at 3:38 in the second period with a power play goal from winger David Kuchejda taking the score to 1-1. Winger Brandon MacLean and center Andrew Desjardins assisted. Spirit center Tyler Haskins fed the puck to defenseman Nigel Williams (COL) from the face off, who scored at 8:06 mark the second to regain the Spirit lead. Hounds defenseman Josh Godfrey evened the score with a goal less than a minute later at the 8:57 mark, assisted by winger Jiri Tlusty.

The back-and-forth scoring action continued into the third period. Saginaw's Haskins moved the score to 3-2 with a goal at 3:04 in the third period, assisted by center Jack Combs. The Hounds would tie up the game for the third time in the game thanks to a goal from winger James Livingston at the 9:30 mark, assisted by defensemen Jacob Muzzin and Godfrey. The Hounds would grab the lead from the Spirit at 14:10 in the third period; Sault Ste. Marie's Tlusty scored the goal, assisted by center Dustin Jeffrey and winger Cody Thornton. The Spirit would pull netminder Ryan Daniels (OTT) in the final minutes for an extra attacker, but were unable to push the game into overtime when Tlusty tallied an empty net goal to seal the game 5-3. Thornton and Jeffrey assisted.

Spirit goalie Ryan Daniels tallied 12 saves in the effort.

The Saginaw Spirit will host the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds at the Dow Event Center for Game 5 Friday, March 30, at 7:11 PM. Game 6, if necessary, will be played in Sault Ste. Marie on Sunday, April 1 at 7:00 PM.
