Hounds Lose to Kings in 10 Round Shootout
March 10, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL) - Youngstown SteelHounds News Release
The Youngstown SteelHounds and the Memphis RiverKings played another classic on Saturday night with the Kings defeating the Hounds 5-4 in a 10 round shootout from the DeSoto Civic Center.
The Hounds took a quick 2-0 lead after one period thanks to Shaun Landolt and Mark Odut with goals at 23 seconds and 15:49 of the opening frame.
The game broke out into another battle as the teams traded goals back in forth to make it 4-3 Hounds after two periods. Stephen Margeson and Chris Richards (power play) recorded the tallies for the SteelHounds while Ryan Held, Jason Sessa and Sheldon Wenzel scored for the Kings.
The Hounds held the lead for most of the third period until Louis Dumont notched his 17th of the season with 7:58 to play in regulation to force overtime and the eventual shootout.
In the shootout both teams scored in their first two rounds but then went blank for the next seven until Tyler McGregor put the puck off of David Currie to give the Kings a 5-4 come from behind win on Saturday night.
The Hounds finish the two game road trip 0-1-1 and are now 14-10-5 on the road and 31-17-10 (72pts) overall, still two points ahead of Oklahoma City for the fourth seed in the Northern Conference Playoffs.
The Hounds return home for their last home stand of the regular season when they host the Colorado Eagles for three in a row starting on Friday the 16th with a 7:05pm start. Playoff tickets go on sale on the same day and fans can get tickets for both the regular season series and the playoffs by going to SteelHounds.com, GetTix.net, stopping by the Chevy Centre box office or by calling the Hounds at 747-PUCK.
