Ohio Valley Greyhounds News Release

WHEELING, WV -- The Ohio Valley Greyhounds look to ease the pain of a recent slump as they take on Staten Island at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.

The Greyhounds have won just three of their last six overall and have lost three of their last four on the road, including a 48-44 setback to Lake Charles last weekend. The Hounds currently stand in second place in the Atlantic Conference playoff standings, just a half-game behind Houma and a game in front of Show Me. The Greyhounds finish their regular season at home, with tomorrow's tilt vs. the Xtreme and then finishing up next Saturday with Evansville. Houma will finish with Waco and Oklahoma (who have a combined 3-16 record) at home before the season finale in Beaumont.

The Xtreme are in the midst of a five-game road trip and have lost the first two games on their trek across the league. S.I. comes into the game with a 3-8 record and ready to play spoiler as they have already been eliminated from the playoff picture. The Xtreme are 1-2 since the resignation of head coach Avery Atadero, who is one of just four coaches in the last three years to lead a team to victory over the Hounds.

The New York-based team will also see their former quarterback for the first time as an opponent as Akili Roberson suits up for his third game of the season with the Hounds. Akili left the Xtreme as their leading passer and rusher. The Hounds and Xtreme have met twice so far this season, with O.V. winning both contests by a combined 72 points. Angel Estrada made an impressive debut in the NIFL, scoring four touchdowns (three receiving, one rushing) as well as manning the free safety position on defense. Angel was named Player of the Game and Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts against the Xtreme. In their second meeting, Shane Franzer threw for three scores and Cassel Smith scored a touchdown against his future Xtreme teammates as the Greyhounds took the Staten Island Pavilion Arena by storm, winning 50-20. The Greyhound defense held Akili Roberson and the Xtreme offense to just 101 total yards. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. Saturday night at WesBanco Arena.
