Atlantic City CardSharks News Release

Atlantic City, NJ, June 17, 2004 – The CardSharks will travel to Florence, South Carolina to take on Atlantic East opponent the Carolina Rays for the first time this season on Monday, June 21 at 7:00 PM. The CardSharks are one of the league's top teams, winning 5 of their last 6, bringing their home record to 5-1. The Rays currently hold the second slot in the East, while the ‘Sharks hold the third spot. The teams are separated by just .011 percentage points coming into the match up.

The ‘Sharks defense had another strong outing last week, allowing just 27 points for the second week in a row, in a 41-27 victory over the visiting Fort Wayne Freedom. The Rays defeated the Staten Island Xtreme 55-32 last Monday in Florence.

This Monday will be the first meeting between the two teams, who will meet in Florence again on July 3rd. The Rays began the season in Myrtle Beach, as the Myrtle Beach Stingrays but moved to Florence in May.

The ‘Sharks secondary were on top last week and will continue to look to make big plays against Rays Quarterback Albert Higgs. Cornerback Chonn Lacey and Free Safety Quincy Baker each had 2 picks and each scored a touchdown in last week's victory over the Freedom. Defensive Ends Eddie Bynes and Jamal Naji provided a steady pass-rush, and will give the Rays offensive line a tough match on Monday night.

Wide Receivers Greg Muckerson and Eric "Easy" Magrini have been the go-to-guys for Quarterback Tony Racioppi in the past few weeks. The duo has combined for over 57% of the club's receptions this season. Magrini has hauled in 56 passes on the year, including 14 for touchdowns. Muckerson is right behind him with 54 receptions and 8 touchdowns. Quarterback Tony Racioppi comes into the game averaging over 180 yards passing per contest. Racioppi has found ‘Sharks receivers 33 times for touchdowns this season, and has completed 58.5% of his passes.

The CardSharks will return home after this week's game for their final home game of their inaugural season against the Staten Island Xtreme in Boardwalk Hall on June 26th at 7:35 PM.
