Ohio Valley Greyhounds News Release
WHEELING, WV -- The Ohio Valley Greyhounds look to end their regular season with a 34th-straight victory at WesBanco Arena Saturday night, with some eye-watching of the out-of-town scoreboard as the night progresses. The Greyhounds still need some help to gain the top spot in the Atlantic Conference, but bottom-feeder Oklahoma will hold the hopes of Hounds fans as they travel to Houma. The Bayou Bucks leads the Greyhounds by a half-game and will travel to Tupelo the following week, a game that many Atlantic Conference opponents will be tuned into next Saturday. The Hounds first and foremost must defeat an Evansville team that has shown vast improvement from last year's 1-13 season. The BlueCats are 4-8 this season, but three of their wins have come against playoff-contending teams: Fort Wayne, Show Me, and Houma. Since that win at Houma, the Cats have lost four straight, including a 58-32 setback to division rival Lexington last week. Michael Cosey found the end zone three times despite the loss. The Greyhounds are coming off their third win of the season over Staten Island, as they smothered the Xtreme, 51-29. S.I. was held to just 71 total yards offense for the game and was intercepted four times, twice by Angel Estrada. Rayshawn Askew scored three rushing TDs and Akili Roberson, facing his old team for the first time, threw two touchdown passes to John Cooper. Saturday's game could produce the third 1,000-yard rusher in NIFL history, as Askew needs 73 yards for the millennium mark. He would join former Greyhound Birdie Dockery and Tri-City toter Wesley Cates as the only thousand-yard backs in NIFL history. Catch all the action on 96.5 WRKP, your "Celebration Station", as Jim Huggins and Jay Circosta bring you the play-by-play for this Saturday night's game.
