
Hounds fall again on the road

Wichita, KS - The Youngstown SteelHounds (11-16-1) road woes continued in Wichita on Thursday night as they fell to the Thunder (16-7-4) by a final score of 5-2. Kris Wiebe scored a goal and had two assists and Sebastien Laplante made 34 saves earning his 12th victory of the season.
After each team failed on power play chances, the Thunder took the lead scoring the first goal of the game as a bouncing puck worked its way to the side of the net and Kris Wiebe swiped it past David St. Germain for his sixth goal of the season assisted by Joe Blaznek (his 43rd point of the season) and Matt Hanson at the 9:07 mark. Wichita outshot the Hounds 10-8 in the period.
The second period was once again played well by Youngstown but they were still unable to get the puck into the net. The Thunder padded their lead to 2-0 with a one-timer by defenseman Ryan Fairbarn from the right circle beat St. Germain for his sixth goal of the season assisted by Jason Duda and Wiebe at the 5:15 mark. The Hounds pressured Sebastien Laplante for 14 shots on goal but were unable to find the back of the net.
Youngstown cut the lead to a goal with a power play marker scored at the 2:05 mark of the final period scored by Chris Shaffer, his second goal of the season, assisted by J.F. Labarre and Scott Barnes. The Thunder would answer with a power play goal of their own scored by Joe Blaznek, his 25th of the season, at the 5:02 mark. Wichita wuld make it 4-1 with Chris Bain scoring his first professional goal scored at 11:10. The Thunder would take command at the 15:59 mark when Tyler Liebel scored his eighth of the season making it 5-1. Youngstown added a late power play goal at the 17:02 mark making it 5-2 as Jonathan Gagnon scored his eighth of the season assisted by Chris Richards and Jeff Christian.
The Hounds finished the game 2 for 10 on the power play, while Wichita went 1 for 8. Youngstown outshot the Thunder 36-33 in the game as Sebastien Laplante improved to 12-5-3 making 34 saves and David St. Germain fell to 7-11-1 making 29 saves on the night.
Youngstown's road trip continues tomorrow night with a 9:05 PM (EST) face-off against the Colorado Eagles.
