Midland RockHounds News Release
Anthony Aliotti was honored by the Texas League and Topps for being Player of the Month for May. The left handed first baseman hit .400 and drove in 24 runs in 29 games for the RockHounds in May. After a solid year at the Double-A level in 2012, Aliotti was assigned to Midland again this season (the first time he has repeated a level in his professional career). The former 15th round selection out of St. Mary's College in California has opened eyes this summer, as he leads the Texas League in batting (.352), hits (74), doubles (20), on base percentage (.453) and walks (41).
Aliotti's month was highlighted by a three home run performance on May 18th against the Corpus Christi Hooks at Citibank Ballpark. Anthony drove in 8 runs and led the RockHounds to a 12-4 win.
Murphy Smith was named Texas League Pitcher of the Week for his performance in a pair of starts last week. Despite splitting decisions in his two starts, Smith allowed just one run in 14 innings of work. The right hander was acquired by the A's in the 13th round of the 2009 draft out of Binghamton University. Smith is in his second year at the Double-A level and has anchored the RockHounds rotation so far in 2013.
Murphy Smith is slated to make his next start on Saturday, June 8th when the RockHounds begin an important eight game home stand at Citibank Ballpark. Seats are still available. Reserve them now online or over the phone at (432) 520-2255.
