Bangor Lumberjacks News Release

Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks have signed former Kansas City Royal farmhand Donnie Ross, the Northeast League club announced today. In keeping with team policy, terms of the deal were not released.

Signed as a non-drafted free agent in June of 1999 by the Royals, Ross has flexed power over his minor league career. The 6-1, 220 pound infielder has 29 home runs over the past three seasons, the last two of which were spent with the Wilmington (DE) Blue Rocks of the Carolina League, including collecting 141 RBI's. He is a career .243 hitter over four minor league seasons.

"We signed Ross for his power potential. He was a Sally League All-Star a couple of years ago, and he can play third, first, and outfield," stated Lumberjacks Manager Kash Beauchamp. "He provides us with a lot of power at third and he has a great attitude. He'll be a great guy to have in the clubhouse."

Ross, a graduate of the University of Tennessee, is also a defensive standout, committing just 2 errors in 114 total chances last season. Donnie's best season came in 2000 as a member of the Charleston Alley Cats of the Sally League, when he hit .303 with 13 home runs and 61 RBI's in 105 games.

The Lumberjacks open the 2003 campaign on the road against the Allentown (PA) Ambassadors on Thursday, May 22, but return to Bangor for the home opener on Friday, May 30 at 7 PM against the New Jersey Jackals at Mahaney Diamond.
