Hot shooting pushes Altitude to first place

ASHEVILLE, N.C., April 2, 2004 - The Asheville Altitude dominated the Fayetteville Patriots from start to finish en route to a 121-93 win at the Asheville Civic Center Friday night. Desmond Penigar led eight Asheville players scoring in double-figures with 19 points and eight rebounds.

The Altitude put up 69 points in the first half to head into the locker room with a 27 point lead. They continued to dominate throughout the game, shooting 58.7 percent from the field. The Altitude shared the wealth around with 33 assists while Fayetteville only handed out 12.

"We came out, played hard and focused," said Altitude Player of the Game Kris Lang. "We wanted to set the tone early and we just took over after that."

Lang and Brandon Kurtz punched in 14 points apiece and grabbed seven and eight rebounds, respectively, for the Altitude. Rusty LaRue added 13 points, including shooting 3-of-3 from three-point range. Kareem Reid turned in a double-double performance with 10 points and 12 assists. Antonio Meeking, Brandin Knight and Greg Stevenson each chipped in 12 points and Stevenson also added seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Brian Brown came off the bench to lead the Patriots with 18 points and five rebounds. Bryan Lucas registered a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds while Ernest Brown scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Cedric Henderson and Junie Sanders each contributed 13 points in the loss.

The win puts Asheville back in first place in the NBDL standings momentarily as Charleston was not in action tonight. They will try to hold on to their ½ game advantage when they host the Huntsville Flight at the Asheville Civic Center tomorrow night. Fayetteville will return home to take on the Charleston Lowgators.
