Riverdragons' Sedric Webber Named NBDL Player of the Month For March

GREENVILLE, S.C., April 2, 2004 – Columbus Riverdragons forward Sedric Webber has been named the National Basketball Development League Player of the Month for games played during March.

Over 10 games in March, Webber averaged 20.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.7 steals. He converted 46-percent from the field (73-of-160) and 83-percent from the free throw line (53-of-64). He scored in double figures in all 10 games during the month and has scored in double figures in every game since being acquired by Columbus on February 19. Overall, Webber leads Columbus in scoring average, posting 19.2 points per game while grabbing 4.7 rebounds a contest. He is the NBDL all-time leader in points scored (1,769), minutes played (3,439), field goals made (638), field goals attempted (1446), free throws made (406), and free throws attempted (521).

Webber, who played collegiately at the College of Charleston ('99), scored 27 points or more in four of 10 games during March, including a season-high 28 at Roanoke on March 20. He has led Columbus in scoring in five of the last seven games and has helped pace the Riverdragons to seven wins in the last 10 games.

The honor is the first for Webber and the third all-time for the Columbus Riverdragons. Two other Dragons have won NBDL Player of the Month honors: Tremaine Fowlkes (November 2001) and Tang Hamilton (December 2002).

Also nominated for March Player of the Month were Antonio Meeking of Asheville, Karim Shabazz of Charleston, Jeff Myers of Columbus, Junie Sanders of Fayetteville, Phil Ricci of Huntsville and Josh Asselin of Roanoke.

Webber, 6-5, 215, small forward, is a three-year NBDL veteran who helped lead the Charleston Lowgators to the NBDL Playoffs during the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons. Prior to returning to the NBDL, Webber's most recent playing experience was in the Philippines. A two-time All-NBDL Second Team selection, Webber played in 105 games (89 starts) over the first two years of the NBDL with Charleston. He averaged 28.5 minutes, 14.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists.

Last season, Webber started all 50 games for the Lowgators and averaged 32.2 minutes per game which ranked fifth in the NBDL. The College of Charleston ('99) alum, ranked ninth in the league in scoring (15.7) and third in steals (87, 1.7 pg). During the inaugural NBDL campaign, Webber appeared in 55 games with 39 starts for North Charleston on his way to his first All-NBDL Second Team selection. He finished 14th on the NBDL scoring charts, averaging 13.4 points per game, while shooting 44.1% from three-point range, ranking him second in the NBDL in that category.

The Riverdragons host the Roanoke Dazzle tonight at 7 p.m. at the Columbus Civic Center. Columbus looks to keep its playoff hopes alive against the team which currently holds fourth place and the final spot in the 2004 NBDL-Delta Airlines Postseason Classic.
