South Bend, IN - Looking for the series sweep at Four Winds Field, the Bowling Green Hot Rods fell to the South Bend Cubs by a score of 8-5 on Thursday night.

After winning the first two games of the season, the Hot Rods gave up a season-high 17 hits to the Cubs.

Offensively, Bowling Green took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning with a sacrifice fly by outfielder Eleardo Cabrera.

After South Bend scored four unanswered runs from the second to fourth innings, the Hot Rods tied the game in the fifth inning with three runs of their own. They got a RBI single from catcher Rene Pinto with the other runs coming on a run-scoring groundout and an error.

South Bend scored their final four runs of the game in the seventh inning against Hot Rods reliever Spencer Moran (L, 0-1) to come away with the victory. The Cubs got a pair of RBI doubles from catcher Johnny Pereda and designated hitter Alberto Mineo. They also got a RBI single by Yelier Peguero.

Overall, Mineo paced the Cubs offensive barrage with four hits while outfielder Kevonte Mitchell chipped in with three hits.

For the Hot Rods, Lowe led the way with three hits while Jesus Sanchez had his third-straight two-hit game.

With the loss, the Hot Rods were unable to sweep the Cubs for the first time ever at Four Winds Field. They also stranded double-digit runners on base for the second straight game.

Overall, the Hot Rods are 9-5 in their last 14 games and have started this franchise-record 13.5 game/14-day roadtrip with six wins in their first nine games.

The Hot Rods will continue a two-week stretch on the road on Thursday with the opener of a 4.5 game series against the Lake County Captains. Bowling Green will send RHP JD Busfield to the mound while the Captains will counter highly-touted lefty Brady Aiken.

First pitch is at 7:00 PM eastern time at Four Winds Field. The next 4.5 games will be played in the eastern time zone.
