Wachusett Dirt Dawgs News Release

LEOMINSTER, Mass. (Friday, July 12, 2013) The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs have found their grove.

After a slow start to the season, the surging Dirt Dawgs have now won five out of their last seven after defeating the first-place Nashua Silver Knights 2-0 at Doyle Field.

"It was a great all-around team effort," said Scott Lettre, Director of Baseball Operations for the Dirt Dawgs. "All three phases of the game were impressive tonight. They put on a great show for the fans."

Wachusett (11-15) received a great pitching performance from starter Michael Yerina (SCSU), who pitched six scoreless innings while scattering six hits and striking out two.

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning, when Dirt Dawgs' third baseman Josh Raymond (Judson) broke the tie with a solo homerun to left field.

The Dirt Dawgs lead remained at 1-0 until the sixth, when Jamill Moquette (UMass Boston) took a 3-2 curve ball over the left field wall for a solo homerun, pushing the lead to 2-0.

Moquete had another solid night at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored, and a base on balls.

It was the Dirt Dawgs' defense and pitching that took over from there.

Dalton Keck (Lipscomb) came in for Yerina, pitching one inning of hitless ball. Keck then handed the ball to Rob Bertucci (MIT), who earned the save for Wachusett.

Bertucci went two innings, allowing only one hit and striking out one.

The Silver Knights (18-9) didn't go down quietly. Pinch hitter EJ Martinez (Endicott) drew a walk, allowing shortstop Dan Cellucci (Bryant) to step into the box.

Cellucci almost took a fastball over the left field wall, which would have tied the game at two, but Nate Pajka (Bates) was there to make the catch and save the victory for the Dirt Dawgs.

The Dirt Dawgs return to action tomorrow as the Seacoast Mavericks visit Doyle Field. First pitch is at 6:35 PM.
