Louisville Lightning News Release
The Louisville Lightning returned from their first road trip of the season with the team's first victory, as the Lightning blitzed La Revolución de Tijuana 13-7 Friday night in Mexico. Lightning player and general manager David Horne said the team's big win has them feeling confident heading into Friday's US Open Cup match against the Evansville Crush.
"Playing in Tijuana in such a hostile environment was a great experience for our team. We went down there not really knowing what to expect, but we felt like we had a good chance to win the game at halftime," Horne said. "Early in the game we were just trying to gauge what kind of pace they were trying to play, but we kept gaining confidence as the game progressed."
Horne said the team will take the experience and learn from it this season. "After we took the lead late in the game, we felt that we could really overtake them and put it away. We were able to do that despite playing a very talented team," Horne stated.
The veteran Lightning star said several of his teammates stepped up to help the team pull out the victory. "Goalkeeper Trey Kramer was fantastic Friday night. I hated that he had to leave with the shoulder injury, because he was tremendous in goal. Jonathan Kincheloe had a great game, as did Jerry Chavez and Ross Hopkins. Kolby Lacrone was fantastic, and you can tell he's getting better every game. His hat trick really helped spark the win. Honestly, everyone played great soccer against Tijuana. It was a team effort and the win was such an amazing experience for us," Horne said.
The Louisville native said playing against San Diego was a very different experience for the squad. "They are extremely big and very, very physical. They have a team made up of veteran indoor players, and they really use the walls very well. It was great to face them and see how we match up, but they are an extremely talented team. It's no surprise that they won the title last season, and they may actually be better this year. I'm really excited to play them again in Louisville before Christmas, and hopefully we can take something from that first meeting on the road that will help us in the home game," Horne said.
