San Diego Sockers News Release
SOCKERS QUICK KICKS
SOCKERS RACE PAST LIGHTNING 11-5
The San Diego Sockers thrilled a crowd of 2,379 at the Del Mar Arena with an 11-5 win over the Louisville Lighnting on Saturday, December 4th. Diego Rovira's hat trick led San Diego, while Paul Wright (two goals, two assists), Aaron Susi (two goals, two assists) and Chiky Luna (goal, three assists) all had four point games. The Sockers are the only remaining undefeated team in the PASL-Pro with a 4-0 record, while the Lightning fall to 1-3.
ROVIRA STANDING TALL SHORT HANDED
With a hat trick on Saturday, versatile swingman Diego Rovira moved into second place on the Sockers with six goals in four games. In addition to being a tremendous finishing option on the left side making runs out of the midfield, Rovira is a trusted part of the Sockers' penalty killing unit. Against the Lightning, Rovira scored a short-handed goal with 1.7 seconds remaining in the third quarter, his second "shorty" of the season.
A GREAT FIRST IMPRESSION
The key to San Diego's 4-0 start has been their ability to start fast in games. For the third consecutive contest, the Sockers put four goals on the board in the first period, on route to an 11-5 win over Louisville. The Sockers have scored 15 of their 37 goals in the opening quarter, 40.5% of their total offense.
PAUL WRIGHT, ALL RIGHT!
41 years young, Paul Wright continues to dominate the indoor game. With two goals and two assists Saturday, Wright (4 goals, 7 assists, 11 points) took over the Sockers' team scoring lead, one point ahead of Kraig Chiles (7 goals, 3 assists, 10 points).
AHEAD: TIJUANA TRIP
The Sockers will play for the next three weeks on the road, starting with a PASL-Pro Western Division showdown with second place Tijuana on Saturday, December 11th. Revolucion Tijuana suffered their first loss of the season on Friday when the Lightning outpaced them 13-7 at Estadio Furati. At 2-1, Revolucion is 1 ½ games out of the Western Division lead. Last season Tijuana went 1-1 against the Sockers at home. The game will be broadcast live on 619Sports.Net Saturday at 7pm.
FUSION WILL FACE SOCKERS IN US OPEN
The Sockers' developmental squad, the San Diego Fusion, emerged from a seven team tournament victorious in the opening round of US Open play, and will face the Sockers in the quarterfinals on December 29th at the Del Mar Arena.
