Hopson Sets Single-Game Franchise Scoring Record

Sioux Falls, SD (Feb. 24, 2015) - Scotty Hopson's 52 points set a new single-game franchise record as the Sioux Falls Skyforce defeated the Reno Bighorns 141-128. The win snaps the Skyforce's four game home losing streak.

Scotty Hopson's record breaking night got off to a hot start as he scored 13 of the first 15 Skyforce (19-15) points. Sioux Falls led Reno (14-21) 15-7 with 7:02 remaining in the first quarter. The Sioux Falls lead would linger around eight until the Skyforce ended the quarter on a 15-6 run to take a 36-19 lead into the second quarter. Hopson finished the first quarter with 17 points (7-9 FG).

Reno started the second quarter on a 16-5 run and a three by Tajuan Porter cut the Skyforce lead to six with 8:38 remaining in the quarter. Sioux Falls would score on 18 of their final 22 possessions in the second quarter and lead Reno73-57 at the half. Hopson would score 12 second quarter points (5-6 FG), giving him 29 first half points (12-14 FG).

Sioux Falls would continue to increase their lead in the third quarter and would lead 101-75 with 4:28 remaining in the game when Khem Birch converted the alley-oop from Andre Dawkins. Birch would tip-in a missed Hopson three-pointer with barely any time remaining in the quarter and Sioux Falls took a 111-87 lead into the final quarter. Hopson scored 11 third quarter points (4-6 FG) giving him 40 points (16-20 FG) through three quarters.

Hopson would break the single-game franchise record of 46 points (Kassib Powell and Ralph Lewis) when his three-point play with 2:31 remaining in the game gave him 48 points. Hopson would score four more points before being subbed out of the game to a standing ovation at the Sanford Pentagon. Hopson's 52 points is also the most points scored by a NBA D-League player this season. The Skyforce would end their four game home losing streak with a commanding 141-128 victory. The 141 Skyforce points is a season high for Sioux Falls.

On his way to scoring a single-game franchise record 52 points, Hopson shot 21-28 from the field. His 21 made field goals is also a single-game franchise record. In addition to his 52 points, Hopson recorded seven rebounds and four assists. Fuquan Edwin finished with 22 points (9-13 FG, 4-6 3FG), seven assists and five rebounds. Andre Dawkins finished with 20 points and Shawn Jones (13 points, 11 rebounds) recorded his team leading 13th double-double.

The Bighorns were led by Tajuan Porter's 37 points and seven assists. Ra'shad James' would finish the night with 31 points, five rebounds and five assists. Reggie Moore (16 points), Sim Bhullar (16 points) and David Wear (15 points) also finished in double-figures for Reno.

The Skyforce will finish their four-game home-stand this Thursday when they host the Erie BayHawks (13-21) at 7:00 p.m. That night the Skyforce will be wearing specialty throwback jerseys designed after the road jersey's from their inaugural season. The Bighorns will now travel south to face the Eastern Conference leading Austin Spurs (25-9) this Thursday.
