March 11, 2003 - Continental Basketball Association 2 (CBA 2)
Grand Rapids Hoops News Release

The Grand Rapids HOOPS clinched the final American Conference playoff berth for the Continental Basketball Association postseason with a dominating 141-104 victory Saturday night over the Sioux Falls Skyforce. The HOOPS earned 5.5 quarter points in the win, giving them 169.5 quarter points for the season. Gary (24-24) defeated the Dakota Wizards 98-96 on Saturday night as well, but earned just 4.5 quarter points to leave them with 168.5 points.

Grand Rapids (23-25) will now compete with the American Conference champion Rockford Lightning for the right to play for the CBA Championship later this month. The best-of-five series is set to begin this Tuesday, March 11 at the Rockford MetroCenter. Game Two is scheduled for a Wednesday afternoon matinee in Rockford. Tip off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Due to venue conflicts for both teams, Grand Rapids holds the home-court advantage with the final three games scheduled to be played at the DeltaPlex Arena.

Rockford (32-15) is led by the superb offensive duo of Ronnie Fields (23.4 ppg) and former Michigan Wolverine and Inkster native Albert White (22.1 ppg). The Lightning led the entire CBA with a 129.2 scoring average, while also giving up 124.4 points per game. Grand Rapids struggled in the season series with Rockford, dropping eight of ten meetings.

In the National Conference, the defending-champion Dakota Wizards host the Yakima Sun Kings in Game One of their series, on March 11. The winners of the two series will compete for the Jay Ramsdell Championship trophy on March 23 or 24.
