
Hoops Drop Overtime Thriller

The Grand Rapids HOOPS dropped a 149-146 overtime heartbreaker at the hands of the Rockford Lightning in Game One of the best-of-five series at the Rockford MetroCenter on Tuesday night. The HOOPS held a 146-141advantage with just over a minute remaining, but the Lightning scored the game's final eight points to secure the victory.
It was a highly entertaining game with the two teams trading extended scoring runs all evening.
Grand Rapids was led offensively by Jerald Honeycutt, who scored 38 points (13-27 FG) and grabbed six rebounds on the night. Tim Kisner also scored a season-high 19 points (6-10 FG) for the HOOPS, including two important three-point baskets in the fourth quarter to help force overtime. Immanuel McElroy added 19 points (8-12 FG) and nine assists, and Kareem Reid chipped in 15 points (6-13 FG) and seven assists.
The Lightning had four players finish up with at least twenty points, including Marshall Phillips' 35-point effort. Ronnie Fields added 33 points (11-14 FG) and Danny Johnson 31 points (10-18 FG).
The HOOPS will have a short time to recover from the tough loss, as the teams will meet for Game Two Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. EST.
