Grand Rapids Hoops News Release

The Grand Rapids Hoops secured their spot in the CBA Finals as they defeated the Rockford Lightning 127-124 in a Wednesday night thriller. The victory earned the Hoops the American Conference title, three games to one.

The two teams battled each other all night in a see-saw battle that came down to the games final moments. A field goal by Albert White with 2:08 remaining gave Rockford its first lead since the second quarter, but a inside basket by Jerald Honeycutt just 20 seconds later regained the lead for Grand Rapids. Three free throws in the games final minute by Kareem Reid and Kevin Simmons sealed the victory for the Hoops, who will make their first appearance in the CBA Finals since the 1992-93 season.

Alex Scales led the way for the Hoops, scoring 19 of his game-high 36 points in the third quarter. Honeycutt added 25 points and eight rebounds, while CBA Rookie of the Year Immanuel McElroy recorded 16 points, ten rebounds, and eight assists.

Albert White scored 26 points for Rockford, who won the regular season American Conference title, while former-Hoop Reggie Jordan added 25 points and ten rebounds.

Grand Rapids will face the Yakima Sun Kings in the CBA Championship on Monday, March 24 at 10:05 p.m. EST. The broadcast can be heard live on SportsJuice.com.
