Grand Rapids Hoops News Release
The Continental Basketball Association announced today that Grand Rapids HOOPS' forward Jerald Honeycutt and guard Alex Scales have been named to the All-League First Team, while guard Alex Scales earned Second-Team honors.
Honeycutt (6-9/265) has been the key offensive weapon for the HOOPS throughout the entire 2002-03 season, finishing third in the CBA in scoring with a 22.6 point average. The leading scorer in Tulane history, Honeycutt also displayed rebounding and passing skills that rank him amongst the best all-around players in the league. Voted to the CBA All-Star game in early January, Honeycutt scored 20-plus points on 26 occasions this year. While he began the season as a major component of the starting five, the Louisiana native became one of the best sixth men in the league following the HOOPS' acquisition of Olden Polynice.
Scales (6-4/190) averaged 19.7 points per game in his first season in the league, including a CBA-high 52-point performance on February 2 against the Rockford Lightning. The Oregon graduate exploded onto the CBA scene, quickly becoming one of the most exciting players in the entire league. Scales finished fourth in voting for the CBA Newcomer of the Year as he finished the season ranked sixth in the league in scoring average. While Scales has been known for his explosive leaping ability, he has also worked tirelessly to develop his outside shooting touch. In fact, in his 52-point breakout, Scales his a team season-high eight three pointers.
