Grand Rapids Hoops News Release
Immanuel McElroy connected on a three-point play with just four seconds remaining to give the Grand Rapids HOOPS a 112-109 victory over the Gary Steelheads Saturday night at the DeltaPlex Arena. Despite shooting a dismal 40 percent from the field, the HOOPS were able to ride an impressive offensive performance by Jerald Honeycutt to take 5.5 of seven quarter points.
Notree connected on a running jumper with ten seconds remaining on the clock, but the HOOPS quickly inbounded the ball and headed up court. Scales fed the ball to McElroy, who was fouled by Artie Griffin on the way to the basket.
Honeycutt led Grand Rapids (15-17) with 42 points (13-25 FG), including 27 points in the second half alone. He also connected on a season-high seven three-pointers. Alex Scales added 22 points for Grand Rapids, while Olden Polynice grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with 13 points of his own.
Gary (16-17) was led in defeat by Bryant Notree's 23 points, while newly-acquired Nick Sheppard registered 21 points and ten rebounds. Sheppard joined the Steelheads after Oliver Miller was suspended four games for his conduct following their loss at Rockford on Thursday.
The HOOPS host the conference-leading Rockford Lightning tomorrow afternoon at the DeltaPlex Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. EST.
