Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

SAN ANTONIO - Infielder Alex Bregman, outfielder Teoscar Hernandez, and pitchers Francis Martes and Brendan McCurry give Corpus Christi a league-best four players on the 2016 Texas League Postseason All-Star Team.

The Hooks, who captured the South Division first-half championship at 47-23 (.671), posted their fourth 80-win campaign in the last five years. Bregman and Hernandez were promoted to Triple-A Fresno on the last day of June and are now regulars with the Houston Astros. McCurry moved west 10 days earlier and has appeared in 25 Grizzlies games.

Martes, the reigning TL Pitcher of the Week, earned his ninth victory in a 7-0 decision over Midland at Whataburger Field last Friday. The 20-year-old tops Corpus Christi in wins (nine), earned run average (3.32), starts (21), innings pitched (122), strikeouts (126), and WHIP (1.17).

Bregman, Hernandez, and McCurry were selected as South Division Midseason All-Stars.

In 62 games with the Hooks, Bregman hit .297/14/46. He scored 54 runs, posted 16 doubles, and two triples. The former LSU All-American walked 42 times against 26 strikeouts.

Hernandez, who repeated Double-A this season, batted .305/6/30 over 69 contests. He scored 53 runs, doubled 19 times, and stole 29 bases.

McCurry rolled up 13 saves in 28 relief appearances. He was 2-4 with a 2.27 earned run average. McCurry yielded 28 hits and eight walks vs. 50 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings.

The Postseason All-Stars are selected by league managers, pitching coaches, hitting coaches, radio play-by-play announcers and beat writers.
