Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS - The Arizona Fall League announced the rosters for the upcoming season and five current or former Frisco RoughRiders, including Texas Rangers No. 3 overall prospect (according to MLBPipeline.com) Andy Ibanez made the Surprise Saguaros roster. Ibanez will be joined by catcher Isiah Kiner-Falefa and pitchers John Fasola, Joe Filomeno, and Reed Garrett.
The Arizona Fall League is a prospect-laden, six-team league with players from all 30 Major League clubs. Each team includes representatives from five Major League organizations. The league runs from Oct. 11 to Nov. 19. Games will be played Monday through Saturday at the various Spring Training facilities in the Phoenix area.
In addition to the five Riders, Class A-Advanced High Desert catcher Jose Trevino was selected to the Saguaros roster. High Desert pitching coach Oscar Marin will serve in the same role with Surprise.
For Fasola, this is his second straight season in the Arizona Fall League. Last fall, former RoughRiders Lewis Brinson, Jurickson Profar, and Ryan Rua also made the club. Additionally, current RoughRiders Adam Parks, Ryne Slack, and Sam Wolff pitched for the Saguaros last season.
Surprise Stadium, home of Rangers Spring Training games, returns in 2016 as an AFL venue and home to the Surprise Saguaros after it was closed for renovations last year.
The Bowman Hitting Challenge is scheduled for just before the season on Oct. 8. The fourth annual home run derby features one batter from each participating Major League organization vying for an American League and National League cash prize.
The AFL stars will again come together for the 11th Fall Stars Game on Nov. 5 at Surprise Stadium. The season will culminate with its annual championship game on Nov. 19 at Scottsdale Stadium.
