North Shore Honu News Release
The North Shore Honu downed the Waikiki BeachBoys, 8-1, in a Hawaii Winter Baseball game played before 987 in attendance at Hilo's Francis Wong Stadium. The contest marked the first match of a three-game series between the two squads on the Big Island, the previous home of the Hilo Stars, a former HWB team.
Jamie Romak got the Honu on the board in bottom of the first inning with a bases-clearing, three-run double with two out to put North Shore up 3-0. Romak's three RBIs led the team as the Pittsburgh Pirates prospect upped his batting average to .217.
Stephen Chapman padded North Shore's lead in the second frame with a two-run single, and Lou Santangelo added an RBI single to push the Honu further ahead, 6-0.
The BeachBoys (8-9) got on the board in the fifth inning when catcher Sean McCraw grounded out to second base, and plated Jermaine Mitchell. Antoan Richardson led Waikiki with two hits.
Honu (11-6) starter Brett Sinkbeil (2-0, 1.13 ERA) allowed an unearned run on three hits in five innings on the bump to earn the win. Sean Walker picked up his first save of the campaign after tossing the game's final three innings without allowing a hit or run, and striking out four.
Josh Sullivan (0-2, 6.75 ERA) took the loss after allowing six runs, three of which were earned, on five hits in three innings.
Both teams return to Francis Wong Stadium for the second game of the series with first pitch slated for 6:30 p.m.
