Rochester Honkers News Release
(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers dropped the finale of a two-game series to the Duluth Huskies on Friday night, July 6th in Duluth, MN by a final score of 2-1.
Four hits were all the Honkers offense could produce in the defeat.
Duluth starter Joey Novak (Harvard) was dominant through 7.0 frames scattering just two Honker hits and not allowing a single run. Novak struck out six and retired the last eleven batters he faced to improve his record to 6-0.
Honkers starter Matt Kent (Texas A&M) turned in another stellar pitching performance as well, but was handed the loss for his efforts. The lefty allowed just two earned runs over 7.0 innings on eleven hits and two walks, while striking out five. Kent is now 2-3 on the season.
After being shutout through seven innings, Rochester finally got on the board in the top of the eighth on a leadoff double from first baseman Jordan Parr (Illinois) and two groundouts to bring him in.
The Honkers had a scoring chance in the top of the ninth inning with two runners on and just one out, but third baseman Brandon Defazio (San Mateo) struck out looking and second baseman Reid Roper (Illinois) grounded out to the pitcher to end the game.
Honkers catcher Cole Lankford (Texas A&M) comtinues his hot hitting as he went 2 for 4 with a double. Lankford is now 11 for 29 (.379) in his last ten games.
The lone RBI was from shortstop Michael Lukkason (Dakota Wesleyan) on a groundout in the eighth to plate Jordan Parr.
Reliever Elliott Engle (Doane) worked a scoreless eighth inning for Rochester.
After a long ten-game road trip, the Honkers (1-1, 16-21) are back home tomorrow, July 7th at 7:05 PM when they battle the Willmar Stingers (1-1, 21-16). Nick Dolsky is set to start for the Honkers against Willmar starter Jerad McCrummen (Texas Tech). Dolsky has made just one start in 2012 for Rochester and is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA. McCrummen is a perfect 3-0 with an ERA of 2.15.
The Honkers have already seen McCrummen once this year. On June 23rd, McCrummen pitch 4.2 innings and allowed just one earned run, but was given a no-decision as the Honkers beat the Stingers 9-8 in Willmar.
