Fargo-Moorhead Jets News Release
Fargo (ND) Winners of three straight overall, and each of their last five home games, the Fargo-Moorhead Jets (26-11-3) are at the John E. Carlson Coliseum this weekend for two games.
On Friday night at 7:05pm, the FM Jets renew their rivalry with their North Dakota rivals, the Bismarck Bobcats (20-15-2) a team that has taken full control of the season series between the two franchises. The FM Jets won the first three meetings this season -all in Bismarck- by a combined 15-5 margin.
However, it's been all Bismarck since then as the Bobcats have won four straight against the FM Jets including three at the Carlson Coliseum.
The four straight losses to Bismarck is the most for the FM Jets in the series against their fellow state rivals.
The FM Jets enter the weekend atop the North American Hockey League's Central Division with a seven-point lead over second place Southern Minnesota. Bismarck is in third place, 13 points behind the FM Jets, but do have two games in hand and are one of the hottest teams in the NAHL with a 15-7-0 record since mid-November.
Bismarck has won six consecutive road games which is tied with Bozeman for the longest active streak in the NAHL.
After facing Bismarck, the FM Jets then host the Billings Bulls (14-22-6) on Saturday night at 7:05pm in a rematch of a series three weeks ago in Montana. Despite struggling for much of the season and clinging to the final playoff spot in the NAHL's West Division, Billings swept the FM Jets in a two-game series Jan. 6-7.
Billings is in the midst of the franchise's first-ever sub .500% season in this their 13th year in existence. Formerly members of the America West Hockey League, Billings won four straight titles in the mid 1990s but this season has reminded fans those days are long gone. Barring a very strong finish, the Bulls will fail to reach .500% and may also miss the postseason, for the first time in the team's storied history.
This is also a rematch of last year's Borne Cup Finals, won by the FM Jets in a four-game sweep.
Even with the sweep in early January, the FM Jets are still 3-1-1 versus the Billings Bulls this season.
The FM Jets are the 2005 Borne Cup Champions and are in their third season as members of the North American Hockey League. The NAHL is the nation's largest Junior A hockey league and is now in its 30th year of operation.
Jets home games are played at the John E. Carlson Coliseum in Fargo, ND. All games are broadcast at 103.9 THE TRUCK and fmjets.com.
