Tornado Take Another Four of Six Points Against Roadrunners - With two road wins in three road games, the Texas Tornado took four of six points this past weekend and increased their South Division lead over Texarkana. Thursday night, the Texas Tornado used timely scoring, and stellar goaltending to defeat the Santa Fe Roadrunners 3-2 at the Chavez Community Center in Santa Fe. After a scoreless first period, which saw strong goaltending from both sides, the Tornado got on the board in the 2nd period with a goal from #15 Sean Roadhouse. Roadhouse picked up a loose rebound drive from #2 Mike Olmstead. For Roadhouse, it was his first career junior goal, and culminated a strong performance in the game as he had two great chances early in the game that he almost converted on. Minutes later, the Tornado took a 2-0 lead, as #9 Justin King put home a rebound shot past Roadrunners goaltender Phil Greer, after a drive from the point from defenseman #27 Sean Hayden. Santa Fe closed to within 2-1 and spoiled #33 Troy Redmann's shutout with a 2 on 1 goal by David Solway. Some good passing and hard work on the power play by #18 Tom Train and #28 Karl Sellan culminated in a 3-1 lead, as #26 Derek Danowski put home a rebound in front of the net. Santa Fe scored minutes later to make it 3-2 on a 3 on 2, but the Tornado held strong for the final four minutes to win 3-2. On Friday night in Santa Fe, the Tornado special teams came alive and in a big way in a 4-1 Tornado win. After a scoreless 1st period like the night before, the Tornado took advantage of a Santa Fe turnover on the power play, as #18 Tom Train picked up the puck and scored on a breakaway for a 1-0 lead. Defenseman #2 Mike Olmstead made it 2-0 on another power play goal, as he rocketed a shot past Roadrunners goaltender Jeff Rose. After some spectacular saves from DiGirolamo, the Tornado scored shorthanded as #26 Derek Danowski was the recipient of some hard work and put home a rebound shot from #17 Jordan Mowbray to make it 3-0 after two periods. Santa Fe would finally crack through on the power play as Brandon Johnson slapped one in from the point, but the rest was all Tornado defense behind more great goaltending from DiGirolamo. A late empty-net goal from Mowbray gave the Tornado a 4-1 win and their 3rd straight victory. It was a nailbiter Saturday night in Santa Fe. The Santa Fe Roadrunners, looking to avoid a weekend sweep, came out firing on the Texas Tornado. The Roadrunners scored twice in the 1st period, both on 5 on 3 power plays to take a 2-0 lead. A goal early in the 2nd period made it 3-0 Santa Fe and the Tornado looked dead in the water. However, the Tornado brilliantly fought back. First, #26 Derek Danowski scored on the power play on a nice back-door pass from #28 Karl Sellan. The Tornado made it 3-2, as #12 Colin Long rocketed a slapshot from the point on another Tornado power play. The comeback became reality minutes later as #11 Ryan Fuller blew one past Roadrunners netminder Phil Greer for a 3-3 tie heading into the 3rd. Both teams had their chances in the 3rd period. The Tornado missed several close chances, but controlled most of the play and goaltender #33 Troy Redmann was solid as ever. However, the Tornado would lose the lead and ultimately the game as a turnover in their own end allowed Mark Rintel of the Roadrunners to pick up a loose puck in front of Redmann and blast home the game-winner over Redmann.

Defenseman #21 Tyler Ludwig Returns to Tornado Roster for 2005-06 Stretch Run A stingy Texas Tornado defense that is allowing a league 2nd best 2.21 goals against per game, just got stronger as veteran Tornado defenseman #56 Tyler Ludwig was added to the Tornado roster. Ludwig received a scholarship last season to play for the Western Michigan University Broncos this fall. However, two weeks before he was scheduled to go to college in August, Ludwig sustained a serious knee injury that would sideline him for 6-7 months. After undergoing surgery and rehabilitation in Dallas, Ludwig is back. His expected return to the line-up will be mid-February according to Tornado Head Coach and General Manager Tony Curtale. "It is obviously something we are very happy about, as Tyler will bring experience and poise to an already strong defensive corps. However, we want to make sure he is 100% before we bring him back for full competition, but his rehabilitation has been intense, and Tyler will be a much stronger player because of it," said Curtale. "We expect Tyler back around mid-February... maybe the 15th for Pros vs. Prospects II, or February 22nd vs. Texarkana." Ludwig has played for the Tornado during both their National Championship seasons in Frisco. Ludwig has played in 152 career games, scoring 52 points with 146 penalty minutes. He has appeared in 30 playoff games, scoring 11 points. Tyler's dad Craig Ludwig is a former standout defenseman, who played for the Minnesota North Stars/Dallas Stars franchise from 1991-99.
