Home Game Prep: Military Appreciation Night and Rusty's Birthday this Weekend

GENEVA, ILLINOIS - The Chicago Steel's season-long, seven-game homestand continues this weekend with Military Appreciation Night presented by Grunt Style on Friday against the Green Bay Gamblers, and Rusty's Birthday featuring the Steel Family Pack, a mascot hockey game and full-team, post-game autographs on a Steel Family Sunday.

On Friday, the Steel honor active military members and veterans on Military Appreciation Night presented by Grunt Style, including complimentary admission for active military and veterans, as well as a $2 ticket discount for their guests.

Grunt Style is a popular Carol Stream-based apparel company made up of nearly 400 US Veterans and Patriots, with a mission to deliver the highest quality, most Patriotic apparel on the planet. DuPage Honor Guard will present the colors as part of a special national anthem performance by Chuck Wolter, who served as a United States Army Specialist in the Communications Center in Bremerhaven, West Germany from 1985-1989 as part of the 581st Signal Company, 39th Signal Battalion. The Steel have teamed up with Operation Warrior Wishes which is providing a giant American flag to be unfurled by Steel players for the special performance.

The Steel will honor Gold Star Families, including Vietnam veteran Rob Braido and Fallen Gold Star Family of Army PFC Aaron Toppen. Various military-themed promotions will take place throughout the night including a pushup contest presented by Grunt Fit, and the opportunity to win prizes provided by Grunt Style.

Prior to Friday's game, the Steel host their second annual Breaking into Sports panel, as young professionals are welcomed to the arena to hear from industry leaders, including representatives from the Chicago Cubs, Joliet Slammers and the Steel. This great networking opportunity, rescheduled from Feb. 9, begins at 5:30 p.m. and includes a ticket to the game. Interested participants must pre-register by calling 855-51-STEEL.

Sunday is Steel mascot Rusty's birthday and features appearances from many of his mascot best friends from around Chicago, including Southpaw from the Chicago White Sox, Ozzie from the Kane County Cougars, Skates from the Chicago Wolves, Swiper from the Chicago Bandits, Spikes from the Joliet Slammers, Wally the Wizard from Enchanted Castle, and more. The mascots will be participating in many birthday events including a much-anticipated on-ice mascot hockey game during the first intermission, birthday gift-opening contest, a mascot kiss cam, and speed breaking (mascots trying to make fans smile).

Sunday's game features t he Steel Family Pack offer - purchase four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas (or waters) and four chuck-a-pucks starting at just $48. The package must be purchased in advance and is not available on the day of the game.
