San Diego Sockers News Release
The Sockers and Stars conclude a home-and-home series on Sunday in the Pacific Northwest after San Diego's 6-4 victory on Friday. The Sockers won their eleventh consecutive match with six different players netting goals.
Friday's game marked the much-anticipated MASL debut of U.S. Soccer icon Landon Donovan, who tallied an assist on Brandon Escoto's game- winning goal. "It's awesome, and this team deserves it," said Donovan of the rich atmosphere in San Diego and the record crowd (8,492), "I think the crowd got to know a lot of these players tonight, see great goals, and their personalities shine, it's a win-win for everyone."
Escoto leads the team in goals (18), assists (12) and points (30). Sockers goalkeeper Boris Pardo, who is second the MASL in GAA and Save %, earned his league-best 13th win of the season by making five saves and adding an assist.
Tacoma gave San Diego its only loss of the season on December 22.
