SOUTHAVEN --- With more than 2,400 animal shelters and pet rescue groups signed up to participate worldwide, this year's Iams 8th Annual Home 4 The Holidays program hopes to find good, lifelong homes for over 350,000 pets. The RiverKings are proud to support these loveable animals at this Saturday's (December 16) game versus the Tulsa Oilers at 7:05 p.m. at the DeSoto Civic Center.

Iams Home 4 The Holidays pet adoption drive began in 1999 when Helen Woodward Animal Center organized 14 San Diego area shelters to find homes for 2,563 orphaned pets. Each pet adopted went home with an Iams holiday meal. In 2005 the program saw its 1-millionth pet adopted.

Five shelters and rescue groups from the surrounding area will be attending the RiverKings' game as representatives of Home 4 The Holidays. As the RiverKings featured non-profit, Home 4 The Holidays and the represented organizations hope to spotlight some of their furry friends and locate them happy homes before the holiday season.

Attending the RiverKings game Saturday will be representatives from West Tennessee Border Collie Rescue Group, Save 1 Pet, Good Dog Rescue, DeSoto Animal Rescue, and Bartlett Animal Shelter. Each of these groups will have information tables setup around the concourse.

"The RiverKings are excited about being a part of the Home 4 The Holidays campaign," said Maggie Biedenharn, RiverKings Ticket Sales staff member. "It's not only a great way for the participating shelters and adoption agencies to be recognized for what they do but through our ticket fundraising program, they have been able to raise money for their respective organization."

Pooh Bear, an 8-week old St. Bernard, Terrier Mix from Save 1 Pet in Olive Branch will be riding the zamboni during first intermission Saturday night. Pooh Bear is one of many dogs in the area looking for a good home.

"We are excited to participate at the Home 4 The Holidays event with the RiverKings this year," said Jessica Vinson, representative from West Tennessee Border Collie Rescue Group. "Attending the RiverKings game brings our organization great recognition, and really helps us educate people on what it is we do. It is also a great fundraiser for us. Raising extra money allows us to save more animals and get them much needed veterinarian care."

Vinson and other representatives from the West Tennessee Border Collie Rescue Group will be participating in broomball during intermission. "I have played before," Vinson said, "but I wasn't great. It's sure to be fun."

The Iams Home 4 The Holidays adoption drive attributes its success to families bringing pets into their homes for the holidays. Iams Home 4 The Holidays works together with area shelters and rescue missions to match the needs of pets with the desires of families, so that everybody wins.

The Iams Home 4 The Holidays adoption drive will continue through December and end January 2, 2007. For further information regarding the Iams Home 4 The Holidays pet adoption drive visit www.animalcenter.org/home4theholidays.
