Evansville BlueCats News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN: The Evansville BlueCats are pleased to announce that defensive end Deion Holts has been named UIF Defensive Player of the Week for performance in Week 13 against the Lexington Horsemen. Last week Holts recorded 5.5 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 safeties, and a blocked kick against Lexington on the way to his first career UIF Defensive Player of the Week honor.

Evansville BlueCats Head Coach John Hart said, "This award is long overdue for Deion. Every week he's one of the best players on the field and he's having a huge year. I couldn't be happier for him."

Deion Holts is leading the team in several statistical categories this season, including total tackles (52), tackles for loss (14), sacks (6), safeties (3), and blocked kicks (4). He's also scored a touchdown this season when he scored on an on-side kick return. He leads the league with 3 safeties this season and ranks favorably among the league leaders in each of the other categories. After last week, Deion is the new BlueCats career leader in sacks and tackles for loss, records he was able to break in only 17 career games with the team. Deion Holts was scouted and placed through the Indoor Football Scouting Bureau.

Other BlueCats being recognized by the league this week are running backs Michael Cosey (Offensive Player of the Week "Honorable Mention") and Dale Jennings (Special Teams Player of the Week "Honorable Mention").

Michael Cosey scored 3 touchdowns (1 rushing, 2 receiving) last week against the Lexington Horsemen and finished the game with 66 all-purpose yards. It was his first multi-touchdown game since July 3rd, 2004 on the road against the Beaumont Drillers and his first 3 touchdown game since June 19th, 2004, which coincidentally was also a home game versus Lexington. Cosey still holds all of the BlueCats single season rushing records from his outstanding 2004 season.

Dale Jennings had 5 kick returns for 56 yards last week against Lexington. He also had 3 receptions for 32 yards. Jennings has racked up 400 all-purpose yards this season, adding to career totals that dominate the BlueCats record book with more than 3,200 all-purpose yards and 60 career touchdowns during his 5 seasons with the BlueCats.

This is the first time Michael Cosey has been recognized by the UIF in their weekly awards. Jennings has previously earned UIF Offensive Player of the Week honors in Week One of the 2005 season, when he rushed for 4 touchdowns and a team record 122 yards in a win over the Raptors.

Other players receiving league awards for Week 13 were Sioux Falls quarterback Terrance Bryant (Offensive Player of the Week), Rock River WR/KR Ronnie Elliot (Special Teams Player of the Week), and Bloomington linebacker Winston Taylor (Defensive "Honorable Mention").

Since the UIF was formed in 2005, no other team in the UIF has had more players earn more Player of the Week awards than the Evansville BlueCats.
