Hogs sneak by Generals in shootout

Rockford, Ill.- Well it seems that the Rockford IceHogs have figured out the shootout. After going nearly a whole year without a shootout victory, the IceHogs picked up its second win in the extra session in a week when they slipped past the Flint Generals 2-1 in front of 3,531 at the Rockford MetroCentre.

Trailing 1-0 late in the third period, Rockford found themselves on their seventh power play of the game. Center Preston Mizzi's cross-ice feed found winger Bryce Cockburn who sniped in his sixth goal of the season past Jason Muzzatti at 15:43. Muzzatti sparkled between the pipes for the Generals making 35 saves, including several acrobatic blocks to keep his team in the game. Rockford outshot Flint 12-1 in the third period.

The only blemish on Frederic Cloutier's record on Friday was a power play tally from Shawn Fisher. Fisher picked up a saucer pass from winger Bobby Reynolds and he snapped in his third lamp lighter of the campaign at 4:39.

In the shootout, the Hogs received goals from Cockburn in the first round and winger Robin Big Snake in the third round. The only Flint goal came in round one from center Terry Marchant. The Hogs outshot the Generals 37-17 in the contest. Mizzi extended his team season high point streak to11 games and Cockburn extended his streak to nine.

Next Home Game: Saturday, Feb. 10 vs. Muskegon Fury. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. The UHL's top team returns to the MetroCentre. The first 1,000 fans to the game and through the turnstiles will pick up a Hammy Hog Piggy Bank from Members Alliance Credit Union and 23WIFR.
