Rockford IceHogs News Release
Glens Falls, N.Y. - Down a goal in the third period the Rockford IceHogs got help from the blueline to complete a comeback and pick up their first win of the season, 4-2 over the Adirondack Flames.
Adirondack's Corban Knight broke a 1-1 stalemate early in the final frame to put the Flames up a goal at 4:56.
The IceHogs responded just over five minutes later to tie the game back up once again, this time at 2-2. Garret Ross slid a pass for Viktor Svedberg to blast past Brad Theissen at 10:05 for his first goal of the season.
Fellow Hogs' blueliner Klas Dahlbeck jumped in on the scoring with a power play strike to give the IceHogs their first lead of the night at 3-2. Dahlbeck was setup by Peter Regin and Stephen Johns, and fired home his first marker of the season. In all, Hogs' defensemen combined for the first three IceHogs goals.
Adirondack was whistled for a too many men penalty with under a minute to play and Peter Regin took advantage to secure Rockford's first win of the campaign. Regin's empty net power play tally gave him three points on the night as he also picked up two assists.
The Flames found the scoreboard first to start the game. Michael Ferland forced a turnover behind the IceHogs net, picked up the loose puck, and deposited it to give Adirondack a 1-0 advantage at 5:22 in the first period.
TJ Brennan matched the goal to begin the second period and tie the game at 1-1. Regin and Teuvo Teravainen found Brennan for his first goal in an IceHogs sweater and it gave the AHL's reigning defensive player of the year 200 career AHL points.
Goaltender Scott Darling picked up the win in his first start for the IceHogs, stopping 21 of 23 shots. Thiessen was handed the loss despite fending off 35 Hogs' chances.
