Hogs blank Jackals in first of three-game set

Elmira, NY.- In the first of three straight games in Elmira against the Jackals, the Rockford IceHogs and goalie Frederic Cloutier pitched a shutout. The Hogs backstop led the way with 29 saves for Rockford as the team extended its unbeaten streak to11-straight games (10-0-1) in a 3-0 win. Rockford's unbeaten streak is one shy of the club record. Rockford's power play paced the offense with a pair of goals.

The Hogs jumped out to the 1-0 lead in the opening with its first power-play marker. Winger Robin Big Snake picked up a rebound from a Nathan Lutz blast and disposed it in the Jackals goal past goalie Kris Tebbs at 13:53.

Another power-play tally extended the IceHogs lead to 2-0 in the third period. Winger Jason Notermann hammered in a rebound just :17 into the frame for his 10th goal of the season. Rockford added another insurance marker at 16:40 of the third set with a rocket slap shot from Bryce Cockburn, beating Tebbs over the shoulder.

That was more than enough offense for the Hogs as Cloutier shut the door on the Jackals. Rockford finished the night 2-for-6 on the power play while Elmira went 0-for-6. Winger Jason Ralph contributed a pair of assists in the winning effort.

Next Homestand: Friday, March 2 vs. Port Huron Flags. Game time is 7:30 p.m. The Flags and Hogs hook up for the final time this season when they meet at the MetroCentre. The first 1,000 fans to the game will receive IceHogs Poster #6 from Pepsi, Medicine Man, Johnson Press and the Rockford Register Star.

Saturday, March 3 vs. Quad City Mallards. The puck is slated to drop at 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs host its Eighth Annual Jersey Auction for charity as the archrival Mallards return to Rockford. The Hogs will don commemorative jersey's that will get auctioned off immediately following the game. The first 1,000 fans to the game will pick-up an IceHogs T-shirt featuring Hammysaurus Rex courtesy of Axberg Heating, Saturn of Rockford, Ameriprise Financial and Dental Dimensions.

Also, before both games, the IceHogs will host a United States Hockey League game between the Chicago Steel and Sioux City Musketeers. The game on Friday, March 2 starts at 3:30 p.m. and the contest on Saturday, March 3 will begin at 3 p.m. Tickets purchased for either game is good for both the IceHogs and Steel contests.
