Hjalmarsson Heads To Rockford, Parenteau Dealt To New York

Chicago, Ill.- Chicago Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon announced on Thursday that the National Hockey League club has assigned defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson (HAHL-mahr-son) to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. Tallon also announced that the club has traded IceHogs winger P.A. Parenteau to the New York Rangers (NHL) for a conditional draft pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft..

Hjalmarsson comes to Rockford after skating last season in the Swedish Elite League. The d-man played in 37 games with HV-71 and also played for Team Sweden in the 2007 World Junior Championships, chipping in a pair of goals and an assist in seven games.

The Eksjo, Sweden native attended Blackhawks training camp this fall, but was unable to participate in any exhibition games due to a wrist injury. The 20-year old blue liner will join the IceHogs immediately.

Parenteau was dealt today to the Rangers organization before getting a chance to suit up for a regular season game with the IceHogs. Parenteau skated in Rockford's home exhibition game against Peoria and suffered a leg injury that held him out of the IceHogs opener at Quad City on Saturday.

In 73 games last season split between the Blackhawks, Norfolk Admirals and Portland Pirates, Parenteau collected 30g-49a-79pts. Parenteau was dealt on Dec. 28, 2006 from the Anaheim Ducks organization to Chicago along with Bruno St. Jacques for Matt Keith, Sebastien Caron and Chris Durno.
