Detroit Hitmen News Release

The Detroit Hitmen have become the professional single 'A' affiliate of the Philadelphia Thunder. The Philadelphia Thunder are a junior A team that plays in the United Junior Hockey League (UJHL). The Thunder are owned and coached by Jimi Simmons, who also is the head scout of the Elmira Jackals. "The idea being the affiliate for the Thunder was brought to me by Jimi. I felt that it would be a good idea, since we would have a way to watch players develop in the junior ranks, and be able to bring them up as they 'age-out' of juniors," stated Matt Wiedenhoeft. "Jimi has produced top talent in the past years, along with one player in the Washington Capitals training camp," finished Wiedenhoeft.

The affiliation between the Hitmen and the Thunder is another milestone in the short history of the Hitmen. This is the second team that the Hitmen have joined a strong partnership with, allowing the Hitmen to solidify itself in the hockey community.

Hitmen open up training camp October 12, 2009 at the Great Lakes Sports City in Fraser, MI. The Hitmen's training camp is open to the public free of charge. The training camp will be concluded with a home and home preseason schedule against the Revolution. The Hitmen host the Revolution on October 17 as part of the home and home. The tickets for this game are $3 general admission, with $1 going to The Breakaway Foundation.
